Our company name quipos was inspired by intelligent recording devices used in the Inca Empire about 500 years ago: A quipu (spanish) or khipu (Quechua: knot), sometimes called talking knots, is a data storage based on a decimal system.
The quipu cords contained numeric and other values encoded by knots in a base ten positional system to store information. Highly trained runners (Chasqui) delivered these informations throughout the entire Inca Empire. Each relay of messengers could accomplish a distance of up to 400 km per day. Informations about trading goods, tax, payments and news where quickly and safe delivered directly to their ”points of service”.
Specialists (khipu kamayuq) created and deciphered the quipu knots. Even today historians attempt to crack the quipu firewalls and to decipher its codes – see also: quipu database, National Science Foundation and Harvard University: http://khipukamayuq.fas.harvard.edu/
This Inca information system was one of the best at the time – quick efficient and safe. And this exactly represents our philosophy: quipos solutions – simply efficient.
